Basic Automotive Transmission Repair/Overhaul

 

  • To conduct a professional inspection of the Transmission, diagnose, service, and repair automatic transmission; tear down and assembly a rebuilt transmission. Students will understand hydraulic circuit diagrams, complete valve body spring and valve identification and Valve Body Mapping (passage identification for the valve body and all spacer plates). The graduate will qualify for jobs such as an automotive technician, dismantler, installer, part salesman, assembler, service tech, lube tech and equipment tech found at car dealerships, repair shops, salvage yards, recycle centers.

Course Descriptions

AUMT-2325 Introduction to Transmission/ Automatic & Manual-Functions & Operations (Lec. 15) (Lab 50) Prerequisite: Life Skills

The student will learn about an automatic and manual transmission and the difference between the two. Students will be able to describe the functions and operations of the transmission system, the hydraulic principles and operation, and related circuits of modern automatic transmissions.

AUMT-2326 Current Trends in Automatic & Manual Transmissions (Lec. 15)(Lab 50) Prerequisite: Life skills

In this course, students will be informed of the latest trends and new technology in the transmission industry. Students will visit area transmission repair businesses for additional information related to new trends in the industry.

AUMT-2327 Basic Manual Transmission/Drivelines Operations/Overhaul (Lec. 30)(Lab 50) Prerequisite: Life Skills

Students will learn how to properly and safely raise automotive vehicles, using jacks or hoists, and remove manual transmissions, using mechanic’s hand tools. Students will learn manual transmission driveline operations and functions. The course will orient students how to properly overhaul manual transmissions by disassembling the transmission unit and inspecting for worn parts, such as bands, gears, seals, valves, and adjusting pumps as required, using hand tools. Students learn how to make required adjustments. The students will learn to reinstall the transmission.

AUMT-2329 Manual Transmission In-Car Repair & Servicing (Lec. 30) (Lab. 50) Prerequisite: Life Skills

This course is the hands-on intensive diagnosis and repair of the manual Transmission system. Students will learn skills to repair, replace, rebuild, and install the manual Transmission system in automobiles and light pick-up trucks by utilizing the knowledge and competencies in the previous courses and visit area in the Transmission repair establishments.

AUMT-2330 Automatic Transmission In-Car Repair & Servicing (Lec. 30) (Lab. 50) Prerequisite: RELS-Life Skills

This course is the hands-on intensive diagnosis and repair of the automatic Transmission system. Students will learn skills to repair, replace, rebuild, and install the automatic Transmission system in automobiles and light pick-up trucks by utilizing the knowledge and competencies in the previous courses and visit area in the Transmission repair establishments.

POFT-1127 Basic Computer Skills (Lab. 45) Prerequisite: None

This course teaches the basic skills for the students to use the computer and internet to search for parts information, find, repair, fault tracing instruction, and download software. The students will learn to do VIN breakdowns, engine ID breakdowns; product plates, how to use an acronym guide, download diagrams, descriptions, and locate parts in/for the vehicle. The students will learn basic computer terms and procedures, keyboarding skills, and how to connect a computer to diagnosis a vehicle.
